Tour details:
The guided tour of Pietramontecorvino will take you to discover one of the most beautiful villages in Italy and the orange flag of the Touring club.
The tour starts from Port’Alta gate, which today preserves a fine ogival arch. Through a flight of stairs you reach the church of Santa Maria Assunta of the twelfth century the master church of Pietramontecorvino. The external staircase, the loggia and the portal date back to the eighteenth century, while the lateral portal, with a triple ogival arch and bas-relief of the Agnus Dei, goes back to the original nucleus of the building. The bell tower, of typical medieval structure, is surmounted by a majolica dome in shades of green and yellow.
Following will follow the typical lanes up to La Torre Normanna tower, about 25 meters high, has a square plan on five levels. Each floor has two windows, two of which are decorated with mullioned windows probably from the Angevin period. The tour ends at Palazzo Ducale a three-storey building whose noble wing, the southern one, has an entrance surmounted by a mask leading into the hall of representation. The presence of an Angevin coat-of-arms and some richly ornamented two-light windows bear witness to the thirteenth-century origin.
